First Year on the Road

And just like that summer is over… What a season it has been on The Bonnie Camper!

Following many setbacks from multiple lockdowns and Covid restrictions we finally welcomed our first guests aboard the bus in early June. The unchartered territory of travelling Scotland in an American school bus quickly proved to be a great success. We experienced it all, from scorching hot hikes to non-stop rain for 5-days, I can only express my gratitude to all our guests for getting stuck in and making the most of every experience. During our trips we explored all around the Cairngorms on bike, foot and kayak while developing our knowledge and appreciation for the area, only enhancing every trip that followed. On the opposite side of the country the sight of our 37-foot American school bus quickly became Scotland’s second most famous folktale to the Loch Ness Monster within the small town of Kinlochleven. Sightings were rare to begin with but after a while Kinlochleven became a regular stopping point for us to venture up the Devil’s Staircase and experience unrivalled views of the Highlands. We were frequently welcomed with confused faced locals and enthusiastic hikers all curious and wanting a peek inside our hostel on wheels. We also made a couple of new furry Scottish friends along the way, Hamish and Honey the Highland cows, who quickly figured out that the yellow school bus rolling into the car park equated to a whole load of tasty fruit and veg for them.

Over the course of the summer we ran a total of 11 trips and welcomed an amazing 53 guests on the bus. The feedback from these trips was truly heart-warming and has made every part of the process over the last couple of years worthwhile, a big thank you to you all!

Looking ahead, we have big plans for 2022 with more trips available and a new extended itinerary. For 2022 we are introducing a whisky tour and tasting at Dalwhinnie Distillery as part of our 5-day trip, something we are very excited about. Not only will we be offering more trips and an improved itinerary we are also working hard behind the scenes on some very exciting collaboration projects that we will soon be able to share with you all so stay tuned.

For those interested in booking and experiencing the best adventure trip of the Highlands on offer (no bias), please head over to the booking page on our website for availability and prices – or alternatively drop us a message on Instagram or Facebook.

I personally would like to thank everybody for their ongoing support and wish you all an adventure filled winter.

See you on the road in 2022!
